Duane DesParte
Duane M. DesParte is a CPA who has devoted his career to high quality financial reporting for the benefit of investors and the integrity of our capital markets, serving as a public auditor, chief accounting officer and audit regulator.
As of June 1, 2024, Duane serves as an Independent Non-Executive on the EY Global Governance Council, which advises the EY Global Executive on policies, strategies, and the public interest. In January 2024, Duane was appointed to the IAASB-IESBA Stakeholder Advisory Council to provide insights and advice on international audit, assurance and ethics standard setting.
Previously, Duane served two terms as one of five full-time Board Members of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Appointed by the SEC, Duane served from April 2018 through October 2023, including as Acting Chairperson from June 2021 to January 2022. The PCAOB oversees and regulates audits of US public companies via standard setting, inspections and enforcement. From October 2020 through April 2023, Duane served as Chair of the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators, providing audit regulators from 54 jurisdictions a forum for collaboration and knowledge sharing to enhance audit oversight globally.
Prior to the PCAOB, Duane served for 10 years as the Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller of Exelon Corporation, then a Fortune 100 company in the energy industry. Prior to this chief accounting officer role, he served in various business unit finance and controller officer positions. Before joining Exelon in 2003, Mr. DesParte was an audit partner. He joined Deloitte in 2002 after nearly 17 years at Arthur Andersen, primarily performing financial statement audits for SEC public companies.
Duane graduated with highest honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy. He joined Andersen in 1985, achieving partner in 1998. He became a CPA in 1985, is licensed in Illinois, and is a member of the AICPA and Illinois CPA Society.
Duane served nine years on the Board of Chicago’s Center on Halsted, one of the largest LGBTQ+ community centers, including as Board Chair in 2015 and 2016. In recognition of his contributions, Duane received COH’s 2019 Human First Award. Duane serves on the Council of Advocates (and through 2018 on the Board and Executive Committee) of the Civic Federation of Chicago and is a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Governing Board.
Duane resides in Chicago’s Lakeview with his husband, John C. Schneider.
