John Carroll
John Carroll is a C-suite Risk and Credit Executive with three decades of experience leading risk management, portfolio strategy, and analytical innovation across the consumer and commercial lending sectors. After rising through successively larger leadership roles at Citibank, John served as the Chief Risk Officer for ENGS Commercial Finance, putting in place risk strategies to protect the company, allowing ~400% asset growth. He successfully executed a corporate sale process from Private Equity ownership to International ownership. In 2023 the company merged with 2 other firms to become Mitsubishi HC Capital America, where John stepped into the Chief Credit Planning Officer role and implemented a successful corporate integration, while simultaneously setting a new risk management culture, risk oversight measures, and guiding corporate strategy. John is currently an advisor to financial services technology firm Iridium, as well as a board member for the non-profit Heart of Maine Resource Center.
John has deep affection for the University of Chicago, having spent his formative undergraduate years at U of C earning his BA in economics. His wife is an undergrad alumnus as well as a recent LSI fellow, and his son also graduated from the University.
Unfortunately John’s daughter revolted against his U of C expectations, turning down Chicago (alas…!) to attend a competitor university (good news – the family schism is gradually healing). John is excited to get back on campus himself!
John has a firm sense that we only live once, and thus that life should be rich and varied. He has cultivated a diverse set of interests, hobbies and civic engagement which round out his corporate persona. He is now actively exploring how to best channel his expertise and leadership toward meaningful civic and societal contributions as he sets out on the next chapter of his life.
