Constance Filling

Chief Learning Officer, Association of American Medical Colleges

Constance M. Filling, EdD, is a seasoned educator with more than thirty years of leadership experience building and sustaining highly effective professional development capabilities, teams, and learning functions in commercial, academic, and mission-based organizations. She is a passionate and persuasive advocate for creating learning pathways that facilitate the ongoing growth of individuals throughout their careers, benefitting the individual as well as the organization. Dr. Filling has extensive experience serving as faculty and coach for healthcare professionals and professional services organizations. Her areas of expertise include leadership development, transformation and change, organizational development, program evaluation, and qualitative research.

Constance currently serves as Chief Learning Officer for the Association of American Medical Colleges and leads the AAMC’s Member Learning and Engagement cluster which provides AAMC members with the education, training, research, and clinical care models needed to succeed in the emerging health care environment. She also serves as a faculty coach for the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education Medical Education certificate program. Prior to joining the AAMC, she served as the Chief Education Officer for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and as Vice President of Education for the College of American Pathologists. Prior to her work with mission-based organizations, Constance served as a partner in Arthur Andersen’s Center for Professional Development where she led the Performance Consulting group.

Constance’s professional board activities have included serving as the first public trustee for the American Board of Pathology, and as a member and chair of the Association of Talent Development (formerly ASTD) board. In her personal life, Constance has supported the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as a governing member for over 20 years and is a long-suffering fan of the Chicago White Sox.

Constance earned her BSS from Cornell College, her MA from the University of Chicago, and, her MEd and EdD from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
