John Edelman
As the inaugural managing director of Edelman Global Citizenship and Corporate Responsibility, John Edelman leads its corporate social responsibility (CSR), pro bono and volunteerism, partnership engagement, sustainability and reporting functions. He also serves as president of the Daniel J. Edelman Family Foundation.
Under his leadership, the agency has made significant advances in its CSR agenda, including the agency’s approval of near- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with SBTi; an EcoVadis silver rating; and a B rating from CDP, the global nonprofit that operates an independent environmental disclosure system. Significantly, John was named to Crain’s Chicago Business’ Notable Leaders in Sustainability.
Reflecting his deep interest in veteran affairs and mental health, John is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Employment Advisory Council and its Veteran Employment Advisory Council. He also is a board member of Student Veterans of America that serves as a catalyst for student veteran success throughout and beyond higher education. The Veterans Leadership Council honored him as Veteran Supporter of the Year, and Give an Hour, a national mental health organization, gave him its Commitment to Service award for his dedication to mental health awareness.
John is a member of Loyola’s Baumhart Center Leadership Council. He also chairs the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship’s Professional Services Sustainability Advisory Board, is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Chicago Academy of Sciences’ Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre’s Board of Directors.
John received a master’s degree in marketing and public management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brown University.
