Robert Diaz

Executive Vice President & General Counsel, National CORE

Robert Diaz currently serves as Executive Vice President & General Counsel at National CORE, where he plays a central role in driving organizational growth and strengthening infrastructure to better support the nonprofit’s mission of creating quality, affordable housing.

National CORE is a leading non-profit developer, owner and manager of affordable housing communities with more than 16,000 units under ownership or management and over $3 billion assets under management.

He joined National CORE in 2017 as General Counsel, and in that capacity has overseen a broad portfolio of legal, regulatory, and corporate governance responsibilities. Over time he expanded his scope and took on the additional role of Chief Administrative Officer, before assuming his present dual role with expanded strategic and operational oversight and leadership of the company’s operational, finance and support functions.

Prior to National CORE, Robert’s legal career spanned work in debt finance, banking regulation, mergers & acquisitions, general corporate law, and large-scale regulatory remediation in the financial industry. He has extensive experience designing and implementing internal controls, corporate compliance frameworks, and governance structures to manage risk and ensure legal/regulatory performance.

He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Chapman University.

In addition to his legal and administrative work, Robert served for 15 years in the United States Army Reserve as a JAG (Judge Advocate General) Corps officer, contributing legal counsel in the military context and gaining leadership experience in high-accountability environments.
