Scott Y. Stuart
Scott Y. Stuart, Esq. is a recognized leader in global corporate restructuring and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of INSOL International, the world’s preeminent federation of cross-border restructuring professionals. INSOL’s worldwide community spans attorneys, accountants, financial advisers, academics, judges, and policy leaders working at the forefront of turnaround, insolvency, and financial stability across established and emerging economies.
Prior to joining INSOL International, Scott was the Chief Executive Officer of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), a global nonprofit headquartered in Chicago with nearly 10,000 members across more than 50 worldwide chapters. His leadership helped elevate TMA’s global profile, strengthen member engagement, and expand its thought-leadership footprint.
Scott’s path into restructuring was anything but linear. He began his career aiming for entertainment law, working at a division of Cablevision and serving on the New York Bar Association’s Cable Television Committee, before an unexpected opportunity in a boutique bankruptcy practice, and later the U.S. Trustee Program at the U.S. Department of Justice, redirected him into the field that became his professional home. That pivot sparked what is now a 30-plus-year commitment to corporate renewal, organizational transformation, and the business of professional associations.
A long-time advocate for inclusion, Scott is a Founding Member of WorkOUT, supporting LGBTQIA+ professionals in the restructuring community and helping create affirming spaces at a time when such visibility was rare. He has served on the board of Futures and Options, a New York City nonprofit focused on educational and workforce development for underserved youth, and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Howard Brown Health, one of the nation’s largest LGBTQIA+ health and social service organizations.
Scott lectures internationally on transformational leadership, with recent engagements at Leiden University and Bergamo University. He is also a frequent commentator for media outlets on business, economic, and bankruptcy-related issues. During his time at TMA, he created and hosted more than 110 episodes of a podcast designed to deepen connection across the global restructuring community.
Scott holds a BA in Political Science and Philosophy from Binghamton University and a JD from Brooklyn Law School.
